| Short term psychotherapy Short-term therapy is a process in which I will try to help you identify a specific problem that you are looking to solve. In this case, I will help you to identify and set realistic goals and will then support you as we set out to solve problems and achieve your goals. Together, as we develop a problem solving strategy, we will identify the coping and interpersonal skills that you need to improve or develop in order to make these changes. Many clients are pleasantly surprised to discover how they are naturally already using many of the skills needed to make this change. Often, support and a guiding voice are all that are needed. Together we will assess the pros and cons of your current situation and help you to gain a better understanding of how you want to proceed. |
| Long term psychotherapy Long-term dynamic therapy is a much more intense process than short-term psychotherapy. It consists of exploring ways of being in the world that usually exist outside the conscious awareness of daily living. During our sessions we will uncover and explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, as well as how you relate to others. You will develop a better understanding of who you are and why you respond to situation the way that you do. This level discovery could increase your emotional awareness and often strengthens one’s sense of confidence, self-acceptance and personal responsibility. As a result, you will become aware of what your automatic responses are and develop a keen understanding of how you choose to respond to your surroundings. This process is more time consuming but often leads to more flexibility and a greater capacity for intimacy. The results are usually solid and long-standing. I’m a specialist in long-term therapy. |
Group therapy Group therapy is the process of learning to understand ourselves (feelings, thoughts, reactions) in relationship to others. With the support of a group you will find a deeper understanding about the way in which you behave in relationships. This process will help you begin to remove the obstacles that are impeding your ability to connect and find meaningful relationships. You will come to understand the role that you play both in groups and in more intimate relationships as well. Group therapy can help you break free from age-old patterns of behavior. For example, you might understand how your helplessness triggers other people to attack you or scapegoat you or how your tendency to withdraw might leave you feeling lonely and isolated. The group atmosphere will provide you with an environment to practice new ways of relating to others. I hold a therapy group specifically designed for women who want to learn how to communicate directly and to connect with other women. In a safe and confidential atmosphere, you can get support and feedback about difficult issues that arise in your life. Whether you are dealing with body image issues, an eating disorder, panic attacks, grief, depression, somatic problems or difficulties finding meaningful relationships, this group can be extremely beneficial to you. As you connect with other women you might encounter a sense of clarity and understanding that will help you find your voice and your strength. An initial interview is required to join the group. Call me or email me if you have questions or if you would like to schedule an initial consultation. |
